An order of fungi in the phylum CHYTRIDIOMYCOTA comprising anaerobic chytrids that inhabit the RUMEN; and CECUM of herbivorous animals. Genera (all in the lone family Neocallimasticaceae) include NEOCALLIMASTIX, Orpinomyces, PIROMYCES, and Caecomyces.
